Amazon Prime Video’s most expensive original series is officially heading back to Middle-earth this autumn.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 will premiere on November 11, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. The announcement was made ahead of Prime Video’s Upfronts presentation on May 11, 2026, ending months of speculation over whether the show would arrive this year or slip into 2027.

Some reports had previously suggested the next installment was set to debut in 2027, but The Hollywood Reporter confirmed it would be sooner.
It remains unclear whether the November 11 date covers just the season premiere or a batch of additional episodes. In each of the first two seasons, the first three episodes were made available on premiere day.
What Season 3 is about
Prime Video released the official plot synopsis alongside the premiere date. Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, the story arrives at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
Showrunners have also confirmed the season will begin depicting the Fall of Númenor, one of the most seismic events in all of Tolkien’s mythology.
The War of the Elves, which forms the backbone of the season’s conflict, occurs during the Second Age of Middle-earth in JRR Tolkien’s books and directly leads to the War of the Last Alliance seen in the prologue of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’.
Production: Wrapped in December 2025
The cast and crew began filming Season 3 in April 2025, with production wrapping on December 10, 2025. The season was produced at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, after Amazon signed a long-term deal for exclusive use of new facilities there.
The second season had been shot at Bray Film Studios, also in the UK.
Amazon released several short behind-the-scenes teasers during filming. One focused on Morgoth’s crown in July 2025, one on the sword Narsil in September, and one on Gandalf’s staff in October.
New cast: Jamie Campbell Bower leads fresh additions
Jamie Campbell Bower, known for playing Henry Creel/Vecna on Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’, has been cast as a series regular. His character is described as a handsome high-born knight. He operates under the production code name “Arlen,” and could potentially be a new love interest for Galadriel. Eddie Marsan, who played Terry Donovan across the full run of Showtime’s ‘Ray Donovan’, is also joining.
Additional new cast members include Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla, Adam Young, whose exact roles have not yet been announced.
Returning cast and creative team
Returning cast members include Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, and Robert Aramayo as Elrond. ‘Shōgun’ director Charlotte Brändström and ‘The Wheel of Time’ director Sanaa Hamri will return to direct. Stefan Schwartz, known for ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Walking Dead’, joins as a new director this season.
Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay remain at the helm. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and executive producer-director Charlotte Brändström.
Five-season plan remains intact
The show has drawn around 170 million viewers worldwide and has been a major driver of Prime membership signups. Amazon made a five-season commitment when the show was first announced, and that commitment has never been rescinded.
Season 3 is roughly the halfway point of that plan.
